Optimist Eyes $10M Funding from TDK Ventures for AC Tech
By Business Desk
Indian startup Optimist is in talks with TDK Ventures for a $10 million funding round to develop advanced AC technology for the challenging Indian climate.
Delhi NCR-based cooling solutions startup Optimist is reportedly in discussions to secure approximately $10 million in a new funding round. The potential investment comes from TDK Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Japan’s TDK Corporation.
This potential investment would mark TDK Ventures’ first involvement with Optimist. It remains unclear if this funding is an extension of a previous $12 million seed and pre-Series A round or a distinct new round.
Founding Vision and Market Focus
Founded in 2024, Optimist was co-founded by Ashish Goel, known for Urban Ladder, and Pranav Chopra. The company specializes in developing air conditioners specifically tailored for the challenging Indian climate, addressing high temperatures, humidity, and energy costs.
The startup aims to tackle India’s low AC penetration, where only a small fraction of households own air conditioners despite widespread heat exposure.
- Optimist conducts in-house research and development in Gurugram.
- Their R&D focuses on thermodynamics, heat transfer, humidity control, and airflow optimization.
Market Presence and Investor Interest
Optimist launched its products about two months prior to this report, selling them through its official website and Amazon. Their initial market presence covers Delhi NCR, Rajasthan, and western Uttar Pradesh, with plans for future offline retail expansion.
This development underscores a rising investor interest in India’s home appliance sector. Other startups, such as Helium Air, have also recently secured seed funding in this growing space.
An Optimist spokesperson declined to comment on the information’s veracity. TDK Ventures did not respond to inquiries regarding the potential funding.
