Oil India Subsidiary Boosts Green Energy in Haryana

Oil Green Energy (OGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oil India, has secured Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four municipalities across Haryana. These agreements are set to establish integrated Compressed Biogas (CBG) and waste-to-energy projects within the Gurugram, Faridabad, Hisar, and Ambala clusters.

This strategic move underscores Oil India’s commitment to diversifying its energy portfolio into green solutions, leveraging municipal solid waste for sustainable power generation. The projects represent a significant step in resource recovery and environmental management for the region.

Project Scope and Capacity Overview

The combined facilities are engineered to process a substantial volume of municipal solid waste daily, contributing to both energy production and waste reduction. These projects are poised to deliver meaningful environmental and energy benefits.

• The Hisar cluster project is designed for 500 TPD (tonnes per day) processing capacity.
• Ambala’s facility will handle 900 TPD.
• Faridabad is slated for a 1,600 TPD capacity.
• The Gurugram project leads with a 2,000 TPD processing capability.

Collectively, these installations are projected to scientifically manage 5,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste each day. From this, they are expected to yield 70-75 TPD of Compressed Biogas (CBG) and generate 50 MW of green power.

Integrated Resource Recovery Strategy

The core of these projects lies in an integrated waste processing and resource-recovery model. This approach ensures maximum value extraction from municipal solid waste through a meticulous, multi-stage process.

• Municipal solid waste will first undergo scientific pre-processing and segregation.
• Recyclable materials will be systematically recovered for reuse.
• The wet and biodegradable fraction of the waste will be specifically utilized for CBG production.
• Only the non-recyclable dry fraction will be directed towards Waste-to-Energy facilities for electricity generation.

Expanding Green Energy Footprint

These new ventures align with Oil India’s broader strategic direction, which already includes a footprint in renewable energy generation. The company’s core operations span exploration, development, and production of crude oil, natural gas, LPG, and condensate, alongside pipeline transportation services.

The expansion into large-scale waste-to-energy projects via Oil Green Energy signals a clear intention to bolster its green energy capacity. This initiative will contribute to sustainable waste management in Haryana while strengthening Oil India’s position in the evolving renewable energy sector.
