NMIA Welcomes First Foreign Freighter Cargo, Boosting Trade

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has marked a significant expansion of its global trade capabilities by welcoming its first foreign freighter cargo from Hong Kong. This pivotal development signals the airport’s accelerating role as a key logistics hub for Western India.

Inaugural Cargo Operations Accelerate

The Hong Kong Air Cargo-operated Airbus A330-200F freighter initiated this new service. This aircraft is designed to transport substantial import and export goods, reinforcing NMIA’s capacity.

• 60 tonnes: Approximate cargo capacity of the Airbus A330-200F freighter.
• Three times a week: Frequency of the new Hong Kong Air Cargo service.
• Six weekly movements: Total cargo air traffic movements between Hong Kong and Navi Mumbai.

Expanding Global Reach

This move is central to NMIA’s broader strategy to significantly boost its international cargo operations. The airport anticipates rolling out 13 additional freighter services, expanding its global connectivity.

NMIA, managed by Navi Mumbai International Ltd (NMIAL), a joint venture between Adani Group (74% stake) and CIDCO (26% stake), has rapidly expanded its international reach. Recent operational milestones underscore this aggressive growth trajectory.

• July 15: First Air India Express international passenger flight to Abu Dhabi launched.
• August 1: Inaugural dedicated IndiGo Cargo freighter service commenced to Sharjah.

Broadening International Connectivity

The airport has secured approvals to operate to numerous major destinations across Asia, Europe, and West Asia. This extensive network is poised to dramatically increase freighter activity.

The approved destinations include key economic hubs, strengthening Maharashtra and Western India’s trade links. This expansion is projected to boost freighter activity significantly by the end of August.
