Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has expressed optimism about the growth of the gems and jewellery sector, highlighting its potential to generate new skilled job opportunities. This focus is underscored by a significant grant dedicated to advancing lab-grown diamond research at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.

In a move to bolster the industry and workforce, the Finance Minister inaugurated a new jewellery institute located in Udupi. This institute is designed to provide essential upskilling for young individuals and women, with the ultimate goal of enhancing manufacturing capabilities and creating employment within the gems and jewellery sector.

Furthering the commitment to specialized training, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to facilitate specialized training in diamond technology. These initiatives are strategically aligned with the government’s flagship programs, ‘Make in India’ and ‘Skill India,’ aiming to foster domestic manufacturing and enhance the skills of the Indian workforce.
