Nestasia: ₹180 Cr Valuation, Shunning Startup Playbook
By Business Desk
Home décor brand Nestasia hits nearly ₹180 crore valuation by defying startup norms, focusing on disciplined growth and customer trust.
Kolkata-based home décor brand Nestasia has achieved a nearly ₹180-crore valuation, a significant milestone reached by deliberately avoiding the typical startup playbook of aggressive fundraising and rapid scaling.
Co-founded by Aditi Murarka Agrawal and Anurag Agrawal in September 2019, the company instead focused on disciplined growth, slower spending, and building deep customer credibility.
Defying the Conventional Playbook
The founders made a strategic choice to base Nestasia in Kolkata, leveraging lower operating costs and its proximity to sourcing hubs in Hong Kong.
- During the initial months and through the pandemic, Nestasia built trust by personally contacting customers about delayed orders.
- The brand reported ₹6.8 crore in revenue by FY21.
- Revenue climbed to ₹111 crore by FY25.
- Net revenue reached ₹177 crore in FY26.
- Nestasia projects an annual run rate of ₹300 crore by June 2026.
Nestasia successfully identified a “beautiful middle” within India’s $40-billion home décor market, offering design-led, accessible products that bridge the gap between unbranded goods and luxury items.
An early attempt to expand into accessories proved unsuccessful, prompting the brand to double down on its core home décor category, a key learning in its growth trajectory.
Strategic Scale and Financial Discipline
The brand has evolved from a single-channel D2C model to an omnichannel strategy, integrating e-commerce, quick commerce, and physical retail.
- Nestasia now operates 14 physical stores.
- These stores are spread across nine cities.
Its funding philosophy remained conservative, prioritizing cash flow and equity preservation over aggressive fundraising, a decision influenced by an early investor’s advice. Operating from Kolkata also insulated them from the typical startup ecosystem’s pressures.
Co-founder roles are clearly defined: Aditi Murarka Agrawal leads the consumer narrative, while Anurag Agrawal focuses on financial rigor. This division of labor underscores their disciplined approach.
Despite challenges, such as an expensive app that did not fully deliver, Nestasia’s core discipline in inventory management, supply chain, and strategic positioning has been pivotal. Over half of their products are now sourced from India, with some manufactured in-house.
Experts commend Nestasia’s clear market positioning and execution restraint, noting their growth resembles “old-school merchants” rather than “frantic startup founders.” The company remains confident in its customer loyalty, even as it scales and anticipates competition from larger players like IKEA.
