Mumbai is scheduled for a 15% reduction in water supply across the city and its suburbs, an action initiated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). This measure facilitates essential upgrades to electrical equipment at the Panjrapur Mumbai-3 Pumping Station.
The critical maintenance involves replacing older 6.6 kV High Tension Control Panels with more efficient models to enhance the station’s operational reliability.

The maintenance work is set to last approximately 20 hours, impacting water availability across a wide area.

The Mechanism Behind the Cut
The temporary shutdown of the Mumbai 3 Pumping Station is crucial for the safe execution of these upgrades.
During this period, 10 old high-tension control panels are slated for replacement, with four panels addressed in the initial phase of the project.

Mumbai’s Current Water Reservoir Status
Despite the impending cut, Mumbai’s overall water storage remains robust, according to figures released on Monday.
The combined storage across the city’s seven reservoirs indicates a strong position ahead of this scheduled maintenance.

The civic body has requested residents to acknowledge this temporary disruption and extend their cooperation to the Municipal Corporation administration during the upgrade period.
