Mumbai’s main water sources are nearly full, hitting 95.53% capacity this Monday. Two key reservoirs, Vihar and Modak Sagar, are completely filled.

These figures show a strong increase in Mumbai’s essential water reserves. The Hydraulic Engineer’s Department at Bhandup Master Control Centre provided this data. Information was reported by Mid-day, collected at 6 AM on Monday, August 24.

Mumbai’s Critical Water Network

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) closely watches these water levels. This monitoring is crucial because the seven lakes supply all of Mumbai’s drinking water needs.

The complete network of reservoirs includes Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Vihar (Vehar), and Tulsi. These different reservoirs work together to ensure the city has enough water. They are vital for Mumbai’s continuous supply.

While current combined storage is slightly less than the same time last year, the overall situation is positive. Having two reservoirs at 100% capacity and several others above 95% indicates a significant boost. This points to improved water reserves for the 2026 monsoon season.
