For those who frequently order food or dine out, Mumbai’s food safety authorities have just initiated a significant crackdown. This action means several well-known establishments, perhaps even some of your go-to spots, are facing serious consequences.
The Mumbai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has officially suspended the food licenses for a total of six establishments spread across various parts of the city. These suspensions were enacted after alleged violations were identified regarding hygiene, proper food storage, and the overall quality of food being served.
The establishments directly impacted by these suspensions include Zepto Limited’s Chembur facility, Otters Club located in Bandra, and the Prince of Wales Restaurant situated in Khar West. Further actions were taken against Raj Oil Trading in Vile Parle, Cafe Sifarish in Marol, Andheri East, and Daily Fresh Bakers & Cakes operating out of Dahisar.
Why the Crackdown?
The FDA’s comprehensive enforcement efforts specifically targeted multiple critical areas of concern directly impacting public health and safety. Key issues identified included improper food storage practices, inadequate temperature control measures, and significant general hygiene problems.
It was noted that Daily Fresh Bakers & Cakes, in particular, faced action specifically because of severe hygiene-related infractions discovered within its Dahisar establishment.
This intensified enforcement drive by the Mumbai FDA underscores a clear commitment to ensuring that food safety standards are rigorously upheld across the city. Ultimately, it serves as a crucial reminder for all consumers that the food they consume must always adhere to the highest safety protocols.
