Meta and Reliance Forge AI Data Centre Alliance
Meta and Reliance Industries have signed a pivotal agreement to establish Meta’s first AI-enabled data centre in India. Located in Jamnagar, Gujarat, this strategic partnership is set to significantly bolster Meta’s product offerings and artificial intelligence capabilities for its extensive user base in India and international markets.
Reliance will undertake the construction of the facility, which is initially planned for a substantial 168 MW capacity. Meta will lease this data centre, securing options for future expansion to meet growing demands. The collaboration highlights a commitment to sustainable infrastructure, with the data centre designed to operate on renewable energy and utilize desalinated seawater for cooling. Meta will be responsible for all associated energy and water expenses.
Expanding Strategic Ties and Green Energy Initiatives
This initiative builds upon an established relationship between the two technology giants, following Meta’s significant $5.7 billion investment in Jio Platforms in 2020. The current agreement underscores a deepening of their strategic alliance aimed at advancing digital infrastructure in India.
In a related development, Meta has also revealed separate agreements to procure nearly 1 GW of renewable energy capacity within India. These partnerships, forged with CleanMax and Fourth Partner Energy, are crucial for powering Meta’s expanding infrastructure operations across the country, aligning with its global sustainability objectives.
