The government has clarified its position against implementing a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for milk, asserting that prices will continue to be determined by market conditions through cooperatives and private dairies.
Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, stated that the government is actively pursuing several initiatives. These measures aim to protect dairy farmers’ interests, stabilize milk prices, safeguard consumers, and enhance quality monitoring nationwide.

- New Cooperative Societies: 36,283 established by March 2026
- Existing Societies Strengthened: 31,150 societies
- Milk Chilling Capacity: 168 lakh litres per day created
- Quality Testing Devices: 76,748 distributed
- Processing & Value-Addition Projects: Approved for 418 lakh litres per day capacity
India’s milk production has shown significant growth, increasing by approximately 69 percent from 146 million metric tonnes (MMT) in 2014-15 to 248 MMT in 2024-25, according to government data.
