This crackdown, initiated on August 11, focused on ensuring hygiene and safety standards across the state. Several prominent chains, including Burger King, Domino’s Pizza, and Pizza Hut, were among those found in violation.
Key Findings from Inspections
The FDA conducted inspections on a total of 104 outlets across Maharashtra. These checks revealed widespread issues that could affect what’s on your plate.
- 6 major fast-food outlets faced regulatory actions.
- 5 food-business licenses were suspended.
- 2 outlets received orders to cease operations immediately.
- 95 outlets were issued improvement notices, demanding better practices.
Specific Brand Violations Uncovered
Inspectors found several critical shortcomings at individual locations. These issues ranged from basic hygiene to proper food handling.
- At Domino’s outlets, violations included problems with FSSAI license display, potable water access, proper food storage, and pest control.
- One Pizza Hut location was found using common ovens for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian pizzas, alongside lacking proper labeling on condiment packets.
- A Burger King outlet in Pune was sealed due to serious hygiene and food-safety issues.
Broader Enforcement Actions
The campaign extended beyond just fast-food chains, impacting other food sectors. This broader effort highlights the FDA’s commitment to consumer safety.
- Milk, milk products, and other food items were seized during the drive.
- 10 First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered against individuals for selling banned products.
