LPG & PNG Changes: India’s September 2026 Price, e-KYC, Connection Updates
By Business Desk
India’s LPG & PNG consumers face major shifts in Sept 2026: price changes, new connection halts, and a crucial e-KYC deadline. Stay informed!
As September 2026 commences, Indian consumers relying on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) are set to experience several critical shifts. These include anticipated price adjustments, revised connection policies, and a looming e-KYC deadline.
LPG Price Adjustments and Supply Constraints
Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are poised to reassess the pricing of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders at the beginning of the month. Prices for smaller free-trade cylinders, specifically 5 kg or 10 kg, will fluctuate based on prevailing market conditions.
- Domestic LPG prices in Delhi held steady at Rs 942 in August.
- Commercial cylinders experienced a reduction of Rs 192, bringing their cost to Rs 2,738 in August.
A notable development is the suspension of new domestic LPG connections since March 2026. This halt is directly linked to the Middle East crisis and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has severely impacted global energy supply and driven up prices.
- Major gas companies like Indian Oil, HPCL, and BPCL have ceased new bookings.
- The availability of new connections in September 2026 remains uncertain.
Promoting Piped Natural Gas (PNG) Adoption
In a strategic move to broaden PNG usage, the Oil Ministry has endorsed an Incentive Scheme for Promotion of Domestic PNG Connections. This initiative encourages City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies to activate dormant connections and expand their existing PNG infrastructure.
- The scheme aims to convert unbilled connections into active ones.
- It also focuses on extending the overall PNG network.
- The government mandates that consumers must utilize PNG if the necessary infrastructure is available in their area, even if they possess an LPG connection.
Key Deadlines and Updated Refill Regulations
Consumers with domestic LPG cylinder connections face a critical e-KYC update deadline. Failure to complete the e-KYC process by the stipulated date will result in the purchase of cylinders at higher commercial rates.
- The deadline for updating e-KYC for domestic LPG cylinder connections is August 31.
- e-KYC can be completed via the respective OMC’s mobile application or by visiting an LPG distributor.
New refill regulations have also been introduced, influenced by the US-Iran conflict. These rules impose specific waiting periods for LPG refills based on geographic location.
- Urban residents must observe a 25-day waiting period for an LPG refill.
- Rural areas are subject to a longer 45-day waiting period.
Furthermore, a rule implemented in May stipulates that consumers must surrender their LPG connection within 30 days if a PNG facility becomes accessible in their vicinity. A transfer voucher is issued for those who may relocate to a non-PNG service area in the future.
As the month progresses, consumers across India are keenly awaiting further announcements regarding LPG and PNG rates and associated regulations.
