Kumar Shanker has officially assumed the role of Managing Director at Indraprastha Gas (IGL), a prominent city gas distribution company. He succeeds Kamal Kishore Chatiwal in this key leadership position, marking a significant transition in the company’s executive management.
Shanker brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having dedicated over three decades to GAIL (India) Limited, a major state-owned natural gas processing and distribution company. His extensive tenure at GAIL has provided him with deep insights into the energy sector and gas infrastructure management across India.
Prior to his appointment at IGL, Shanker served as the head of Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd., where he was responsible for leading operations and strategic initiatives for the regional gas distribution entity. This previous leadership experience further underscores his qualifications for steering IGL’s operations and growth trajectory.
Indraprastha Gas operates as a joint venture, with significant stakes held by two of India’s leading public sector undertakings: GAIL (India) Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). Additionally, the Delhi government maintains a stake in IGL, highlighting the company’s critical role in the capital region’s energy infrastructure and its public-private partnership structure.
