By Varun Mittal
Jio Platforms, Reliance Industries’ tech arm, makes a remarkable leap into WIPO’s global top 20 for PCT patent rankings in 2025, showcasing its deep-tech evolution.
Jio Platforms Joins Global Patent Elite
Jio Platforms (JPL), the technology arm of Reliance Industries, has surged into the global top 20 of the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s (WIPO) Patent Co-operation Treaty (PCT) rankings for 2025. This significant leap highlights its transformation into a deep-tech entity.
The company climbed an impressive 320 places, positioning itself alongside leading global technology innovators such as Huawei, Samsung, and Qualcomm. This achievement is particularly notable given that global PCT filings saw less than 1% growth in the same year.
Innovation & Strategic Focus
As of March 31, 2026, Jio Platforms has cumulatively filed 6,817 patents, with 1,009 already granted across India and international jurisdictions.
Shri Akash M. Ambani, JPL’s Managing Director, attributed this success to the company’s focus on next-generation digital technologies. These include:
- 5G & 5G Advanced
- 6G
- Artificial intelligence
- Cloud-native platforms
JPL’s strategic focus also encompasses developing sunrise technologies like 5G/6G Radio, 5G/6G Core, satellite communications, and Agentic AI under the JioBrain initiative. This links its intellectual property growth directly to future commercial deployments.
India’s Growing Tech Footprint
The WIPO ranking validates Jio Platforms’ R&D productivity and intellectual property depth, underscoring India’s growing role in original technology creation on the global stage.
