Deal Snapshot

  • Stake acquired: 38% of Liverpool Football Club.
  • Club valuation for the deal: Between £5 billion and £6 billion.
  • Liverpool’s record annual revenue for the year ended May 2025: £703 million.

British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia leads 1892 Holdings. He brings 18 years of prior experience in English football, notably as a director and co-owner of Queens Park Rangers.

Bhatia is set to join Liverpool’s expanded board as vice-chairman, pending regulatory approval. This appointment adds significant leadership expertise to the club’s governance structure.

Billionaire Investors’ Engagement

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s involvement in the deal is anticipated to be primarily financial. His interests will be represented by Bryan Baum of K5 Global, rather than through direct operational input at the club.

Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin is also part of the 1892 Holdings consortium. Neither Bezos nor Saverin are expected to take a board seat or be involved in the daily club operations.

Future Control Option

  • The consortium holds an option to acquire a controlling interest in the club.
  • This option is valid within the next 12 months from the deal’s finalization.
  • There is currently no formal commitment for 1892 Holdings to exercise this controlling interest option.

The investment is viewed as a long-term business development strategy for Liverpool, reinforcing its market position. It is not expected to immediately alter the club’s transfer spending plans, aligning with its strong financial trajectory and record revenue.
