An IndiGo flight to Delhi was delayed by an hour after a Mumbai man’s bomb joke, causing over 100 passengers to deplane and undergo new security checks. He’s now an unruly passenger.

Travel plans hit a snag for over 100 passengers when an IndiGo flight to Delhi faced an hour-long delay after a Mumbai man jokingly claimed to have a bomb. This incident on August 9 highlights how a casual comment can quickly disrupt dozens of journeys and lead to serious consequences.

A Disruptive “Joke”

The situation unfolded during a pre-flight security check for IndiGo flight 6E333. Anuj Jayaram Suvarna, a 55-year-old Mumbai resident, made the remark about a bomb in his bag, which he later told police was intended as a jest.

His comment led to an immediate security alert, requiring all passengers to disembark. The aircraft and their baggage underwent a thorough security search, causing significant inconvenience and pushing back the flight’s departure.

Immediate Fallout and Legal Action

IndiGo’s Assistant Security Manager, Omprakash Rajbhar, filed a formal complaint with Sahar Police. This resulted in an FIR being registered against Suvarna under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Nimit Goyal confirmed Suvarna was granted bail following his arrest. IndiGo has also taken internal action, classifying him as an unruly passenger and potentially placing him on their no-fly list, impacting his future travel options.
