This sharp drop followed June’s funding spike, heavily influenced by Meta’s investment in CRED.

July’s Funding Landscape

Total Investments: $662 million

Number of Deals: 85

Decline from June: 67%

Largest Single Deal: $130 million (Emergent Series C)

Early-Stage Capital Share: 38%

July featured limited large-ticket deals, with only one round exceeding $100 million.

AI startup Emergent secured $130 million in its Series C round, becoming India’s seventh unicorn of 2026.

The month’s second-largest deal reached only $40 million, underscoring the scarcity of substantial late-stage funding.

Startup Milestones and Shifts

IPO activity saw Zepto postpone its planned public listing amid ongoing valuation discussions with investors.

Four startups ceased operations, including Dream Money, Klydo, PicSee, and Medial.

Notably, no major layoffs were reported in July, a contrast to the approximately 2,500 employees affected in the first half of 2026.

Leadership changes included 25 key executive hires and six senior-level departures.

Regional and Sectoral Investment

Bengaluru remained dominant, attracting $323.93 million across 43 deals, representing 48.92% of total capital.

Delhi NCR followed with $136.35 million from 16 deals, while Mumbai saw $100.15 million across 13 deals.

AI emerged as the top sector for investors, drawing $201.62 million across 15 deals, which is 31.75% of the total funding.

Fintech and ecommerce also attracted considerable investment, with Series B rounds securing the highest capital at $190.4 million across eight deals.

Broader Market Movements

Mergers and acquisitions continued, with Snitch acquiring Berrylush, and Aurum PropTech planning to acquire Housing.com for $46.2 million.

PhysicsWallah increased its stake in Sarrthi IAS, further diversifying market activities.

The overall outlook points to a return to a more normalized funding environment, with strategic activities and M&A continuing despite lower funding volumes.
