Indian equity markets close higher, boosted by easing geopolitical tensions and FII inflows. Nifty sees a late surge due to SEBI’s new Closing Auction Session.

Indian equity benchmarks closed higher on Monday, buoyed by reduced geopolitical tensions and consistent foreign fund inflows. The CNX Nifty notably surged towards the end of trading due to SEBI’s new Closing Auction Session.

Market Snapshot

  • BSE Sensex gained 544.39 points (0.70%) to close at 78,639.03.
  • CNX Nifty climbed 390.70 points (1.60%) to settle at 24,774.30.

The positive market sentiment stemmed from reports indicating the US halted military action against Iran, which immediately triggered a sharp fall in oil prices. This development also allowed for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for shipping, easing global trade concerns.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) further fueled optimism, recording equity purchases worth Rs 277.48 crore on Friday. The Nifty’s distinct late-session spike was directly attributed to the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) Closing Auction Session (CAS), which became effective on August 3, 2026.
