Indian broadcasters have completed their transition to satellite operations provided by non-Chinese companies, adhering to a government directive targeting entities with ties to China. This move prohibits satellite providers such as Chinasat and ApStar from offering their services within India.
AsiaSat, another satellite service provider, has been granted a limited three-month extension, which applies specifically to international and occasional use cases. The changes are expected to significantly impact AsiaSat’s market share as Indian broadcasters migrate to alternative satellite services.
The broadcasters are now utilizing local GSAT satellites and those operated by US-based Intelsat to ensure continuity of their services within the region. The government’s directive aims to eliminate the involvement of China-linked players in India’s broadcasting infrastructure.
