India’s telecom subscriber base expanded in June 2026, reaching 134.8 crore, with Bharti Airtel leading new user additions, according to data released by TRAI. Reliance Jio also recorded substantial growth during the month, contributing significantly to the overall market expansion.
The total number of telephone subscribers in India climbed to 1,348.08 million by the end of June 2026, marking a monthly growth rate of 0.37 percent. This consistent upward trajectory highlights the ongoing expansion within the Indian telecommunications sector.
Key Subscriber Additions
Bharti Airtel emerged as the primary growth driver, adding over 3.1 million users across mobile and fixed-line segments. Their robust performance underscores their strategic market penetration efforts in a competitive landscape.
- Bharti Airtel added 31.63 lakh users.
- This included 29.89 lakh mobile connections.
- Additionally, Airtel gained 1.73 lakh fixed-line connections.
Reliance Jio also posted strong subscriber gains, adding over 2.2 million users, primarily in the mobile sector. The company continues to solidify its position as a major player in the Indian telecom market.
- Reliance Jio added 22.91 lakh subscribers.
- Of these, 21.46 lakh were mobile subscribers.
- Jio also added 1.44 lakh fixed-line connections.
Other operators also contributed to the growth, with Vodafone Idea securing 1.63 lakh wireless subscribers and BSNL adding 94,006 users. These figures reflect a broad-based expansion across various service providers.
Wireline and Broadband Dynamics
Despite overall growth, the wireline subscriber base experienced a slight contraction in June, primarily influenced by losses from a public sector operator. This segment presents a contrasting trend compared to the buoyant wireless market.
- The wireline subscriber base declined by 1.67 percent.
- BSNL lost 7.96 lakh fixed-line subscribers, impacting the overall segment.
Conversely, the total number of broadband subscribers continued its strong upward momentum, exceeding 1 billion users. Reliance Jio maintained its leadership in this crucial segment, indicating robust demand for high-speed internet services.
- Total broadband subscribers increased to 108.75 crore.
- Reliance Jio led the segment with 53.22 crore subscribers.
The June 2026 data from TRAI clearly illustrates a vibrant Indian telecom market, characterized by significant subscriber growth, particularly in the mobile and broadband sectors, despite minor contractions in specific segments like wireline services.
