Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India is set to establish five to eight additional semiconductor manufacturing plants over the next seven to eight years. This expansion follows the successful commencement of production at three existing semiconductor facilities within the country.
Speaking from the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day, Prime Minister Modi underscored India’s accelerated push towards technological self-reliance. He highlighted the strategic importance of semiconductor manufacturing, which serves as a foundational element for critical sectors.

The Prime Minister noted that despite extensive discussions over many years, India previously lacked significant large-scale semiconductor production capabilities. However, decisive steps have now been taken, with India actively exporting semiconductor products.
