India approves four new railway projects worth ₹9,450 crore to boost connectivity, enhance efficiency, and support economic growth across key regions.

India’s railway network is set for a major expansion with four new projects, approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, involving an investment of around ₹9,450 crore.

These initiatives aim to strengthen rail connectivity, improve transportation efficiency, and support India’s broader economic development by addressing congestion and operational bottlenecks.

Strategic Multi-Tracking Corridors

The approved projects encompass critical multi-tracking proposals across key regions, poised to significantly enhance the existing rail infrastructure.

  • The Kharagpur-Bhadrak and Bhadrak-Haridaspur lines span Odisha and West Bengal.
  • The Gummidipundi-Gudur lines connect Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
  • The Cuttack-Paradeep lines are situated within Odisha.

These projects are designed to increase line capacity, which will directly enhance mobility and improve overall operational efficiency for Indian Railways.

Expanding Reach and Economic Impact

The geographical scope of these new railway projects extends across eight districts in four states, significantly expanding the network and its reach.

  • The projects will add approximately 410 Kms to the Indian Railways network.
  • They will enhance connectivity to about 6,448 villages.
  • An estimated 60 lakh (6 million) people will benefit from improved access.

This expansion aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vision of a New India, which emphasizes comprehensive development to foster self-reliance among the population in these regions.

The enhanced connectivity and improved efficiency are expected to create increased employment and self-employment opportunities, driving inclusive growth and economic activity across the impacted districts.
