The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) and Netflix have teamed up to offer 100 scholarships for students across India. This initiative aims to boost creative talent in the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC-XR) sector.
Key Scholarship Details
- 100 scholarships available for students nationwide.
- Covers up to 80% of tuition fees.
- Focuses on six professional programs in AVGC-XR.
These programs include two distinct one-year diplomas and four focused six-month certificate courses. The curriculum is designed to equip aspiring storytellers and professionals with essential industry-relevant skills.

- Interactive Comics & Sequential Arts (one-year diploma)
- Visual Effects Mastery (one-year diploma)
- Virtual Art Department Content Creation (six-month certificate)
- Media Tech Workflow (six-month certificate)
- Art of Character Animation (six-month certificate)
- E-Sports & Gaming Management (six-month certificate)
This partnership is part of the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative, launched after Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The core goal is to invest in India’s creative talent, nurturing the next generation of professionals for the growing AVGC ecosystem.
Supported by the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, these scholarships are open to both students and working professionals. They target individuals across the country, aiming to strengthen India’s ‘Orange Economy’.
Netflix actively contributed to shaping the curriculum for IICT’s Visual Effects Mastery and Media Tech Workflow programs. This ensures the courses align directly with current industry standards and best practices.
Chanchal Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Chairman, IICT Board, highlighted the collaboration’s transformative potential. Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, also emphasized its role in bridging the gap between India’s talent and global industry demands.
IICT serves as India’s national center of excellence for the AVGC-XR sector. It was established by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra, FICCI, and CII.
This initiative directly addresses the need for a future-ready creative workforce, offering a clear pathway for many to gain specialized skills. It promises to empower individuals seeking to enter or advance within India’s dynamic creative economy.
