A Haryana advocate received a Rs 45,500 refund from Apple India for a faulty iPhone 15 after persistent issues and unresolved service requests.

Imagine shelling out big bucks for a brand-new iPhone, only for it to be riddled with problems. That’s exactly what happened to a Haryana-based advocate, who just secured a significant refund for his faulty iPhone 15.

The Rohtak district consumer commission has now ordered Apple India to pay Rs 45,500 as a refund after a prolonged dispute.

Key Details of the Ruling

  • Original iPhone 15 purchase price: Rs 64,999
  • Refund amount ordered: Rs 45,500
  • Purchase month: January 2024
  • Depreciation deduction applied: 30%

Persistent Device Issues Unresolved

Advocate Rajbir Phogat bought his iPhone 15 in January 2024, but it quickly showed problems like overheating, Bluetooth glitches, and poor network connectivity.

Despite numerous visits to an authorized Apple service center, updating the phone, and even changing his mobile network, these issues remained unresolved.

Apple’s Defense and Commission’s Findings

Apple’s defense claimed unauthorized modifications, citing dust in buttons and a potentially unauthorized rear camera lens and back glass.

However, the commission found Apple failed to provide any independent technical evidence or expert report to support these claims.

Commission Orders Further Compensation

The commission’s ruling included additional directives for Apple:

  • Annual interest: 9% from June 2024 on the refund amount.
  • Compensation for mental agony: Rs 5,000
  • Litigation costs: Rs 5,000
  • Condition: Phogat must return the iPhone upon receiving the refund.

This decision highlights the importance of consumer rights and the need for companies to back up their product quality, especially when issues persist after purchase.
