Google AI Hub in Vizag Boosts India’s Tech Future

Key Highlights
Google opens a new AI hub in Visakhapatnam, India, investing $15B to build a gigawatt-scale AI ecosystem and support local tech growth.
Google has broken ground on a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam, a move seen as a significant step in India’s efforts to develop large-scale digital infrastructure for economic growth. The project is a collaboration with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel, and is part of Google’s $15 billion investment plan in India from 2026 to 2030 to establish a gigawatt-scale AI ecosystem.
The Visakhapatnam facility is intended to be a cornerstone of a larger industrial corridor, integrating subsea cable infrastructure, fiber connectivity, and renewable energy sources. This initiative aims to position India as a competitive global hub for AI infrastructure, with a focus on prioritizing local procurement and integrating small and medium enterprises into global operational frameworks. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian described the project as an “inflection point for India’s AI-native future,” aligning with the government’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision.
In parallel, the startup ecosystem is seeing initiatives aimed at supporting underrepresented founders. Rebalance, an accelerator and angel community based in Gurugram, is dedicated to closing the access gap for women founders. Launched in 2019 by Aishwarya Malhi and Vikas Kumar, Rebalance provides women-led startups with mentorship, access to investors, and support without charging fees or equity.
The accelerator runs a structured 15-week program twice a year, accepting 10-15 companies per cohort. Participants receive weekly growth sessions, one-on-one mentoring, expert bootcamps, wellness support, and introductions to over 180 venture capital partners globally. This initiative directly addresses the identified need for a stronger pipeline of support for women entrepreneurs in the startup landscape.
