Goa Approves Sanjivani Sugar Factory PPP Redevelopment

Goa cabinet approves a PPP model to redevelop the defunct Sanjivani sugar factory in Dharbandora into a modern ethanol and jaggery plant.
The Goa state cabinet officially approved the redevelopment of the defunct Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana sugar factory located in Dharbandora. This facility is the state’s only sugar factory and has remained non-operational for several years.
Revitalizing Through Public-Private Partnership
The government decided to execute the revival project through a public-private partnership model to restore operational viability to the site. Under the approved plan, the facility will undergo a complete transformation to serve new agricultural processing needs.
The redevelopment plan incorporates key production units designed to support local economic activity. Specifically, the transformed site will feature:
Ethanol Production Unit: A modern facility dedicated to manufacturing ethanol.
Jaggery Manufacturing Plant: A dedicated processing unit established to produce jaggery.
Supporting Local Sugarcane Farmers
The strategic overhaul is intended to provide a sustainable income source for local sugarcane farmers. Officials emphasized that this initiative will actively boost the regional agricultural economy while making the factory viable again.
