GMR Airports, India’s largest private airport operator, is set to raise ₹6,500 crore. This significant capital will strengthen its balance sheet and refinance existing debt, supporting an expanding airport portfolio.
Fundraising Breakdown
- ₹5,000 crore through equity and other securities, potentially via a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP).
- ₹1,500 crore via non-convertible bonds (NCDs).
The company’s board is scheduled to meet on August 12 to approve an enabling resolution for this proposed fundraising initiative.
Expanding Portfolio & Operations
GMR currently manages major Indian airports including Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, and Goa’s Manohar International Airport.
- Recently inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram, Andhra Pradesh.
- Took over operations at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur, in June 2026, with a planned ₹300 crore investment.
This strategic move follows a year of substantial refinancing and continuous investment in airport expansion across its operations.
Financial Position & Previous Capital Raises
As of March 31, 2026, GMR’s consolidated net debt stood at approximately ₹34,000 crore.
- ₹5,900 crore raised through NCDs in the first half of fiscal year 2025-26 to refinance existing debt.
- ₹2,100 crore via a rupee-denominated bond in January 2026 for GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd.
- ₹1,500 crore through NCDs in FY25 for acquiring a stake in Delhi International Airport Ltd and other equity investments.
In FY26, GMR reported a consolidated gross income of ₹15,200 crore and managed 121.6 million passengers across its domestic and international assets. Aviation experts view these fundraising efforts as a strong indicator of GMR’s confidence in the growth trajectory of the Indian aviation sector.
