As India battles a rising crisis of missing girls in 2024, Flawsome introduces the nation’s first flushable, biodegradable sanitary pad, addressing menstrual waste and child safety concerns.

India Grapples with Rising Missing Children Cases, Girls Most Affected

India is confronting a deepening crisis of missing children, with 2024 statistics indicating a significant increase and a disproportionate impact on girls. The escalating numbers have intensified concerns regarding gender-specific vulnerabilities, highlighting an urgent need for robust child protection frameworks and preventative strategies across the nation.

In 2024, a total of 98,375 children were reported missing, marking a 7.8% rise from the 91,296 cases recorded in 2023. Girls constituted the majority of these disappearances, accounting for 75,603 cases, underscoring a concerning gender imbalance in the crisis.

Maharashtra, a prominent Indian state, registered the highest number of crimes against children. The state reported 3,495 missing children, with girls representing 57.1% of these cases, further illustrating the widespread nature of the issue.

Child protection experts emphasize the critical role of prevention through initiatives such as school counselling and digital safety awareness programs. They also advocate for enhanced coordination among various authorities, child protection systems, and law enforcement agencies to effectively address the crisis.

Flawsome Introduces India’s First Flushable Sanitary Pad

In a significant development for India’s menstrual hygiene sector, Flawsome has launched the country’s first fully flushable and biodegradable sanitary pad. This innovation aims to tackle the persistent challenge of menstrual waste disposal, a critical issue often overlooked, particularly in regions with limited sanitation infrastructure.

Founded by Ranu Khade and Hitesh Narula, Flawsome’s product is engineered to be compatible with both rural and urban toilet systems. The sanitary pad is designed to biodegrade completely within 28 days if properly discarded, offering an environmentally conscious solution.

The concept for Flawsome’s groundbreaking pad originated from extensive research that identified disposal as a primary barrier to menstrual hygiene, surpassing concerns over affordability or access, particularly in India’s rural communities. This insight drove the development of a product focused on ease of disposal.

Flawsome currently holds an Indian patent for its technology and has initiated the application process for an international patent. The company is actively collaborating with policymakers to establish the first national standards for flushable menstrual products in India, paving the way for wider adoption and regulatory clarity.
