Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded Indian equities worth Rs 1,437.52 crore on June 11, while net buying debt, according to NSDL data.

FIIs Net Sell Equities, Buy Debt on June 11

(FIIs) were net sellers in the Indian equity market on June 11, offloading shares worth Rs 1,437.52 crore, according to data released by the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL). This marked a significant outflow from the equity segment, contrasting with their net buying activity observed in the debt market during the same period.

Equity Segment Sees Outflow

In the equity segment, the data indicated a gross buying volume of Rs 14,528.80 crore. However, this was surpassed by a higher gross selling volume of Rs 15,966.32 crore, which ultimately led to FIIs recording a net seller position of Rs 1,437.52 crore in equities. This selling trend reflects a specific stance taken by foreign investors on the given day.

Debt Segment Attracts Inflows

Conversely, the debt segment attracted net investments from FIIs, totaling Rs 1,082.56 crore. The gross purchase of debt instruments amounted to Rs 2,472.24 crore, while gross sales were recorded at Rs 1,389.68 crore. This clear preference for debt over equity highlights a divergent investment strategy by foreign funds.

Diversified Debt Investment

Further breaking down the debt segment, FIIs actively engaged as net buyers across its various categories. They registered net purchases of Rs 447.15 crore in the Debt-General Limit segment, Rs 356.30 crore in the Debt-VRR segment, and Rs 279.11 crore in the Debt-FAR segment. These figures underscore broad-based interest in Indian debt instruments.

Hybrid Segment Sees Minor Selling

The hybrid segment, which includes investments combining characteristics of both equity and debt, saw FIIs as net sellers, though with a comparatively minor impact. Gross buying in this segment stood at Rs 50.71 crore, while gross selling reached Rs 53.40 crore, resulting in a net outflow of Rs 2.69 crore. This minimal activity suggests a less pronounced focus on hybrid instruments.

Overall Investment Pattern

Overall, the NSDL data for June 11 clearly illustrates the investment patterns of Foreign Institutional Investors, showing a definitive move to divest from equities while simultaneously increasing their exposure to Indian debt. This dual activity provides insight into foreign capital flows on that specific trading day.
