EPFO Delays UPI Claims to 2026 Due to System Glitches
By Business Desk
EPFO postpones its UPI-linked claim settlement facility to August 2026 due to significant system glitches and platform migration issues affecting users.
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has deferred the introduction of its UPI-linked claim settlement facility until August 2026. This significant delay follows widespread technical difficulties experienced by members after the recent migration to the CITES 2.01 centralized IT system.
Users have reported numerous operational challenges. These include persistent login problems and sluggish website performance.
Instances of incomplete or missing historical account data have also emerged, creating further hurdles for members. These disruptions have directly impacted the timely processing of standard claim requests.
System Stability Becomes Primary Focus
EPFO’s immediate focus has shifted from new feature rollouts to ensuring the platform’s stability and reliability. Technical teams are actively engaged in resolving these software errors, with improvements anticipated by the first week of August.
Future Integration and Broader Reforms
Once the existing technical bottlenecks are addressed, EPFO intends to integrate UPI as a secondary, faster payout channel. This will complement the current National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) method already in use for settlements. The digital transformation forms part of wider reforms initiated in 2025 by the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment.
These reforms involve collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, responsible for building necessary interfaces. Banking infrastructure support is provided by the State Bank of India and the National Payments Corporation of India. The reliability of the platform is crucial, given EPFO manages over ₹30 trillion for approximately 80 million members.
While the UPI feature aims to modernize withdrawals, the immediate priority for EPFO members remains the restoration of seamless access to their account data and the efficient processing of pending claims.
