Venture capital firm Elevation Capital has executed significant market transactions, divesting Paytm shares worth ₹2,038 Cr through various bulk and block deals. These transactions mark a substantial reduction in the firm’s stake in the Indian fintech giant.
The sales were conducted through two of Elevation Capital’s entities and involved a large volume of shares at a specific price point, attracting interest from major financial institutions.
Key Transaction Details
- Elevation Capital offloaded 97.43 Lakh shares via SAIF III Mauritius Company.
- An additional 41.36 Lakh shares were sold through SAIF Partners India IV Ltd.
- These transactions occurred at an average selling price of ₹1,367.8 per share.
- An extra 10.20 Lakh shares were sold in a block deal, maintaining the same price.
A diverse group of investors acquired these shares, including several prominent foreign institutions, insurance providers, and domestic mutual funds. Noteworthy buyers included Axis, Edelweiss, Franklin Templeton, Tata, Susquehanna, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and Societe Generale.
Prior Divestments and Current Holdings
This latest round of sales marks the second instance this year that Elevation Capital has reduced its position in Paytm. Previously, the firm sold shares valued at ₹630 Cr in May.
Despite these significant divestments, Elevation Capital continues to hold a substantial interest in Paytm. As of the June 2026 quarter, the firm’s stake in the company remains over 12%.
Paytm’s Recent Performance and Related Sales
The Paytm deals were executed at a nearly 3% discount to its closing price of ₹1,408. This comes even as Paytm’s stock has seen a 4.5% increase since its Q1 FY27 financial disclosures on July 20.
- Paytm reported a consolidated net profit of ₹220 Cr in Q1 FY27, a 79% year-on-year and 20% quarter-on-quarter surge.
- Operating revenue for the same period increased by 28% year-on-year and 8% quarter-on-quarter, reaching ₹2,448 Cr.
Beyond Paytm, Elevation Capital also divested 5.24 Cr shares in Meesho, generating ₹974.6 Cr from that transaction. These moves highlight a broader strategy of portfolio adjustments by the venture capital firm.
