Egypt’s Fintech Giants Attract Major Investment

Egyptian fintech is making major waves, with MNT-Halan achieving a $1.4 billion valuation and Blnk securing $37 million in funding to expand its Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services. These developments highlight significant investment and innovation in the region’s digital financial sector.

MNT-Halan, an Egyptian fintech firm, has reached unicorn status following a strategic investment from Al Ahly Capital, the investment arm of the National Bank of Egypt. This funding round is set to fuel MNT-Halan’s expansion across Egypt and the broader region.

Since its 2018 founding, the company has disbursed over $15.5 billion in loans, serving more than eight million customers globally across Egypt, Turkey, UAE, and Pakistan.

New Payment Solutions & BNPL Growth

Cairo-based financial brand Telda has partnered with Mastercard to launch an integrated financial services solution in Egypt. This offering aims to connect everyday payments with investment wallets within the Telda app, specifically targeting younger generations like Millennials and GenZ consumers.

Meanwhile, Egyptian BNPL provider Blnk successfully raised $37 million in combined debt and equity. The equity portion, totaling $12.5 million, was led by Algebra Ventures, with participation from SANAD Fund for MSME, Endeavor Catalyst, and Emirates International Investment Company.

Local banks provided an additional $24.6 million in debt facilities. Blnk focuses on inclusive financing for Egyptians lacking traditional credit access, providing instant approvals based on National ID and mobile phone numbers and leveraging proprietary AI for risk assessments.
