Tamil Nadu BJP Slams Budget: Missed Promises, Lower Spending

Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran recently criticized the state government’s 2026-27 Budget and Agriculture Budget, stating they did not meet public expectations. He argued that the financial proposals lacked new development initiatives and were akin to ‘an empty vessel that makes the loudest noise.’

Nagendran highlighted a concerning trend within the state’s financial planning for the upcoming fiscal year. He specifically noted a reduction in capital expenditure and a simultaneous increase in government borrowing.

Unfulfilled Election Pledges

The BJP President alleged that the budget failed to incorporate several key promises made during the government’s election campaign.

• Rs 4,000 assistance for students.
• Rs 2,500 monthly assistance for women.
• Free LPG cylinders for households.
• Rs 10 lakh accident insurance for online delivery workers.
• Rs 15,000 assistance for farmers.
• Rs 20,000 assistance for fishermen.

Significant Budgetary Reductions

Further scrutiny revealed substantial cuts in critical sectors, drawing strong condemnation from Nagendran. He pointed to specific allocations that have been drastically reduced.

• School Education Department allocation decreased from Rs 44 crore last year to Rs 2 crore this year.
• Agriculture Budget saw a Rs 700 crore reduction.

Nagendran also expressed dismay over the absence of major announcements for crucial infrastructure development projects. He emphasized that improvements in roads and bridges are essential for the state’s overall progress.
