September 2026 is packed with important income tax compliance deadlines for you, your business, and even government entities across India. Keeping track of these dates is absolutely essential to avoid penalties and extra scrutiny from the Income Tax Department.

Key Deadlines You Can’t Miss

Let’s break down the specific dates you need to remember and the actions required by each. Staying organized now will save you hassle and ensure you remain compliant.

By September 7, ensure you deposit any TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) or TCS (Tax Collected at Source) collected during August 2026 with the Central Government. Government authorities have a specific rule to make this payment on the same day without an Income Tax challan.

You also need to upload any declarations received in Form No. 127 from buyers during August by this same date, September 7.

Next, by September 14, taxpayers must issue Form No. 132, which relates to tax deducted at source during July 2026. Timely issuance of this documentation is crucial for your compliance.

Mid-Month Compliance Checks

A significant deadline falls on September 15, marking the payment due date for the second installment of advance tax for Tax Year 2026-27. This is a critical step for many taxpayers to manage their annual tax obligations.

Stock exchanges have until September 15 to submit Form 1 for August 2026, covering transactions where client codes were modified. Government offices also need to submit Form No. 137 by this date for TDS/TCS paid without a challan in August 2026.

End-of-Month Audit & Filings

The final deadline of the month is September 30, when you must submit the challan-cum-statement in Form No. 141 for tax deducted under Section 393 during August 2026.

Additionally, if your income tax returns for Assessment Year 2026-27 are due by October 31, 2026, you need to furnish your audit reports under Section 44AB by September 30. This applies to both corporate and non-corporate assessees.

Trusts, funds, hospitals, universities, and other educational or medical institutions also have until September 30 to submit their audit reports, specifically using Form 10B or Form 10BB.

Diligent tracking and timely completion of these obligations are essential for you to maintain compliance and successfully navigate the tax landscape. Staying informed helps you avoid unnecessary complications and penalties.
