SEBI Stock Market Timings Revised: New Closing Auction Session Introduced
By Market Desk
SEBI introduces revised stock market timings from August 3, including a new Closing Auction Session for F&O stocks to enhance market efficiency and price discovery.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) will implement revised stock market timings starting Monday, August 3. These changes aim to enhance price discovery, improve market efficiency, and align with global standards.
Key Modifications to Trading Hours
A significant change includes the introduction of a Closing Auction Session (CAS) specifically for Futures and Options (F&O)-eligible stocks within the equity cash segment. Furthermore, trading hours for the equity derivatives segment will see an extension.
- The equity derivatives segment will now conclude at 3:40 pm, extending its duration by 10 minutes.
- The regular trading session for F&O-eligible stocks will run until 3:15 pm.
- Timings for non-F&O stocks will remain unchanged.
How the Closing Auction Session Works
The new Closing Auction Session is structured to determine the official closing price more effectively. This mechanism involves a transition period followed by two distinct phases for order entry and matching.
- A transition period will occur after the regular session.
- Order entry for CAS will be facilitated in two phases.
- Order matching for the official closing price will take place from 3:30 pm to 3:35 pm.
Revised Pre-Open Market Session
SEBI has also adjusted the schedule for the pre-open market session, which precedes the main trading hours. This session is crucial for managing volatility at market opening.
- Order entry for the pre-open session will be from 9:00 am to 9:07 am.
- Order matching will then occur from 9:07 am to 9:15 am.
These modifications by SEBI are intended to bolster overall market integrity, liquidity, and transparency across the Indian stock market. The move reflects an ongoing effort to modernize market operations and foster a more robust trading environment.
