Mumbai’s primary water reservoirs have reached 88.93% of their total capacity, securing a stable water supply for the city. This significant level, achieved after consistent monsoon rainfall, translates to 1,287,076 million litres of water.
Current Reservoir Status
The seven lakes providing water to Mumbai span across Mumbai, Thane, and Nashik districts. Three of these vital reservoirs currently stand at full capacity.
Modak Sagar: 100% capacity.
Vihar: 100% capacity.
Tulsi: 100% capacity.
Tansa: Nearly full at 98.85% capacity.
Middle Vaitarna: Holds 92.37% capacity.
Bhatsa: The city’s largest drinking water source, at 86.64% capacity.
Upper Vaitarna: Registered at 78.83% capacity.
Upcoming Rainfall Outlook
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for Mumbai, indicating continued rainfall in the coming days. Moderate rainfall is specifically predicted for August 5th and 6th, 2026.
Following this, light to moderate rainfall is anticipated across the city from August 7th to August 9th, 2026. These conditions are expected to persist, contributing to the city’s water reserves.
The IMD also provided specific tide timings for August 5th, with a high tide of 3.89 metres at 3:53 p.m. and a low tide of 1.11 metres at 8:08 p.m.
The robust water levels, combined with the ongoing rainfall predictions, position Mumbai favorably for its water security. This ensures comfort for residents regarding the essential urban utility.
