By Market DeskIndia’s SIP Boom: Investor Count & AUM Surge

India’s mutual fund SIPs witness explosive growth: investor count nearly triples, AUM surges over 5 years. Discover the key figures and trends.

India’s mutual fund industry saw a major jump in investments through Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs), which are regular, fixed investments, over the last five years. The number of unique investors nearly tripled, showing more people are putting money into these consistent savings plans.

A recent AMFI-Crisil Intelligence report highlights this significant growth. Unique mutual fund investors grew from 2.3 crore in March 2021 to 6.14 crore by March 2026, according to the report. This period also saw SIP Assets Under Management (AUM), or total value of investments, more than triple.

Key Investment Figures

  • Unique mutual fund investors: From 2.3 crore (March 2021) to 6.14 crore (March 2026)
  • SIP AUM (total value of investments): From ₹4.5 lakh crore to ₹14.83 lakh crore
  • SIP share of total mutual fund AUM: 20.1%, up from 13.5% five years prior

Equity funds, which invest in company stocks, remain the top choice for SIP investors. They consistently hold an 87% share of the total SIP AUM. Their own Assets Under Management also saw a significant increase during this five-year period.

Growth Across Fund Types

  • Equity funds’ SIP AUM: From ₹3.46 lakh crore to ₹12.85 lakh crore
  • Hybrid funds’ SIP AUM (mixes stocks and bonds): From ₹0.33 lakh crore to ₹1.11 lakh crore
  • Passive funds’ SIP AUM (tracks a market index): From ₹0.03 lakh crore to ₹0.46 lakh crore

This trend clearly shows investors are increasingly choosing mutual funds, especially equity-focused SIPs. They see these as a key way to build wealth over time and grow their money.
