Bengaluru’s Longest Underpass Opens Soon: Ease Traffic!

Bengaluru’s 320-meter tunnel-like underpass, located near the Yelahanka Air Force Station on NH-44, has reached completion. This significant infrastructure project is now awaiting its official opening for public use.

This tunnel-like underpass spans 320 meters and is complemented by an 800-meter surface road. The structure is built approximately six meters below the main road level, a design choice by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The primary aim of this initiative is to alleviate escalating traffic congestion specifically within North Bengaluru. It is designed to separate local traffic from vehicles traveling to the Kempegowda International Airport, thereby ensuring smoother and faster transit along the crucial airport corridor.

Upon full operation, the underpass is expected to significantly reduce daily commute times for residents. It will also notably ease the flow of vehicles on the heavily trafficked highway stretch leading to the airport.

Key areas anticipated to benefit from this improved connectivity include Yelahanka, Jakkur, and Hebbal, along with other North Bengaluru suburbs. Furthermore, the enhanced infrastructure is projected to stimulate future residential and commercial developments in these surrounding regions.

While the construction work is complete, the underpass remains closed to the public, marking a crucial step towards easing urban mobility challenges in one of India’s fastest-growing metropolitan areas.
