Delhi Master Plan 2047: 3 New Multi-Modal Transport Hubs
By ThePip Desk
Delhi Master Plan 2047 proposes three integrated Multi-Modal Transport Hubs at Anand Vihar, Kashmere Gate, and Nizamuddin to enhance urban mobility and last-mile connectivity.
The Master Plan of Delhi 2047 has unveiled a proposal to establish Multi-Modal Transport Hubs (MMTHs) at three critical locations across the city. These hubs are designed to consolidate diverse transportation services into unified, integrated areas, enhancing urban mobility.
Integrating Transport Networks
Officials have identified Anand Vihar-Karkardooma, Kashmere Gate, and the Nizamuddin-Sarai Kale Khan road stretches as the primary sites for these significant developments. The core objective is to improve last-mile connectivity by seamlessly integrating various transport options.
- Metro
- Bus
- Railway
- Para-transit
- Non-motorised transport
The draft plan mandates that all involved transit agencies will collaboratively develop comprehensive strategies for these MMTHs. This collaborative approach allows for optimized use of resources and spatial planning.
- Agencies can combine their land parcels.
- Integrate multiple modes within a single building or complex.
- Connect non-contiguous land parcels, separated by features like railway tracks or roads, using skywalks and subways, subject to statutory clearances.
Operationalizing the Hubs
MMTH projects are expected to facilitate easy interchange between different transport modes through multi-level interchange facilities. These hubs will also incorporate active spaces, such as retail podiums, to foster public interaction and economic activity within the transport complexes.
Enhancing Efficiency and Connectivity
To further enhance public transportation, the Master Plan suggests that transit agencies implement Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and AI-based passenger and traffic management systems. This technological integration aims to streamline operations and improve the user experience.
- Support data integration for better insights.
- Enable more effective enforcement of traffic rules.
- Ensure smoother transitions between various transport modes.
Additionally, any Transit Oriented Development (TOD) project situated within a 500-meter radius of an MMTH will require full integration with the overall plan before receiving approval. This ensures cohesive urban planning and maximizes the benefits of the transport hubs.
