By Business DeskDeepSeek Eyes $74B Valuation, Launches V4 Pro AI Model

Chinese AI startup DeepSeek aims for a $74B valuation with new funding, launching its advanced V4 Pro model and adjusting API pricing significantly.

Chinese artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek is reportedly seeking nearly $8 billion in new funding, aiming for a valuation of around $74 billion. This move coincides with the official launch of its flagship V4 Pro model, intensifying competition within China’s AI sector.

The company’s V4-Pro-0813 model is now available via DeepSeek’s app, website, and API. This release follows an earlier internal evaluation where its lower-cost V4 Flash model surprisingly outperformed a preview version of V4 Pro.

Key Financials

  • New funding sought: $8 billion
  • Target valuation: $74 billion
  • Initial external financing: $7.4 billion
  • API price increase range: 50% to over 1,100%

DeepSeek is also implementing a revised API pricing strategy, effective August 17. This includes new peak and off-peak rates for both V4 Pro and V4 Flash.

Strategic Expansion

The company plans significant business and infrastructure scaling. This involves expanding its workforce, specifically focusing on AI agents and data centers.

DeepSeek is actively hiring chip-design engineers to explore developing its own AI processors. This initiative aims to reduce its reliance on external suppliers such as Nvidia and Huawei.

This push for self-reliance and expansion further heats up China’s AI landscape. Major players like Moonshot AI, Zhipu AI, MiniMax, Alibaba, and ByteDance are all vying for market share.
