Moniepoint Strengthens Nigeria’s Engineering Talent

Moniepoint Inc., a leading digital financial services provider, has successfully graduated the second cohort of its DreamDevs Bootcamp. This initiative is designed to cultivate world-class engineering talent within Nigeria, directly addressing a critical shortage of mid-to-senior level tech professionals across Africa.

The nine-week program, developed in partnership with Semicolon, provides a comprehensive curriculum. Participants gain exposure to a production environment and mentorship from experienced Moniepoint software engineers.

Key Program Highlights

  • The curriculum covers Java, Data Structures, Software Testing, Spring Boot APIs, and Cloud Infrastructure.
  • Participants received stipends and mentorship from Moniepoint’s software engineers.
  • During a Demo Day in Lagos, nine teams showcased capstone projects for real-world solutions.
  • Graduates from the first cohort are already active members of Moniepoint’s engineering team.

Strategic Investment in Digital Economy

Felix Ike, Moniepoint’s Co-Founder and CTO, emphasized that DreamDevs is a structural investment in Nigeria’s digital economy. He highlighted the importance of intentional processes and resources to build engineering excellence.

This program aligns with Nigeria’s national agenda for technology skills development and the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, which Moniepoint also sponsors. The initiative is a strategic response to the global software developer shortage, projected to reach 85 million by 2030.

Building Africa’s Tech Capacity

Moniepoint aims to grow engineering capacity to support the deepening digital infrastructure ambitions of Nigerian fintechs and the broader African continent. This effort is crucial as Africa’s tech ecosystem attracts significant global capital but still lacks developed talent infrastructure.
