The Indian government is transitioning 1.668 million official email accounts to Zoho’s cloud platform at a cost of Rs 180.10 crore, marking a significant administrative technology shift. This migration indicates a broader change in the government’s approach to building digital infrastructure.

Official government communication has historically relied on systems managed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), the government’s technology backbone. According to Union Minister Jitin Prasada, the migration aims to establish a “robust, sovereign, and secure official email system” while modernizing infrastructure and enhancing scalability, collaboration, and security. Security measures include data encryption, multi-factor authentication, geo-fencing, and IP-based restrictions.

In other news, Zomato’s parent company, Eternal, has approved a fresh grant of 74.18 lakh employee stock options (ESOPs), continuing its practice of using equity incentives to retain and reward talent. The company’s compensation committee has allocated these stock options across three ESOP schemes introduced over the past decade, reflecting different phases of its expansion.

At Eternal Limited’s current share price of Rs 224.7, the ESOP grant is valued at approximately Rs 167 crore. This move follows a similar issuance in October of the previous year, when the company granted 64.13 lakh stock options to employees. The fresh ESOP grant comes as food delivery and quick commerce players compete for market share and managerial talent.
