The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and Computer Age Management Services (CAMS) have expanded their collaboration on the CAMS IIT Madras FinTech Innovation Lab (CIFIL). A new Memorandum of Understanding was formalized on August 12, 2026, to advance financial technology.

This partnership aims to propel the next phase of innovation, foster startup development, drive industry-focused research, and enhance professional education. CIFIL was initially established in 2022 as part of CAMS’ Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Targeting Key FinTech Sectors

The expanded CIFIL will concentrate on several critical emerging areas. These include Artificial Intelligence in financial services, digital payments, and blockchain and tokenization. Further focus will be on cybersecurity, Regulatory Technology (RegTech), WealthTech, and InsurTech. Digital lending, data analytics, and financial inclusion are also key targets.

The lab is also committed to broadening its research portfolio and developing intellectual property. It will facilitate technology transfer and create avenues for the commercialization of research-led solutions.

Supporting Research and Entrepreneurship

The renewed partnership will offer students valuable opportunities for direct industry engagement. This includes research projects, internships, hackathons, expert interactions, and startup mentoring, enhancing their skills.

A significant focus will be placed on bolstering support for fintech startups and entrepreneurs. They will gain access to technical and faculty expertise, mentoring, and industry networks. CIFIL also plans to connect promising startups with relevant industry opportunities to address real-world financial services challenges.

Professional Development Initiatives

CIFIL is also expanding its talent development through professional education programs. These include a Professional Certificate Programme in FinTech and a Certificate Programme in Personal Financial Planning. The programs are designed for working professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, and aspiring fintech leaders.

Since its inception, CIFIL has supported numerous fintech research projects and organized national hackathons. The lab has mentored startups, developed executive education programs, and forged collaborations with banks, regulators, and industry partners.

These initiatives underscore a continued commitment to strengthening India’s digital financial ecosystem. The partnership leverages academic and industry strengths to drive tangible advancements in financial technology.
