The ’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is launching E-PRAAPTI by the end of August, a new digital portal designed to help you recover money from old or inactive provident fund accounts.

This initiative aims to simplify how you find and access your savings, especially if you have accounts that haven’t received contributions in a while.

Understanding Inactive Accounts and Unclaimed Funds

Many people have funds sitting in EPF accounts that have become inoperative over time. An EPF account is considered inactive if it hasn’t received any contributions for three consecutive years.

The numbers show this is a significant issue for many, with substantial money waiting to be claimed.

• Over 30.91 lakh EPF accounts are currently inoperative.

• These inactive accounts collectively hold approximately ₹9,330 crore in unclaimed funds.

How E-PRAAPTI Helps You

E-PRAAPTI, which stands for EPF Aadhaar-Based Access Portal for Tracking Inoperative Accounts, was first announced in April by Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

This new portal uses an Aadhaar-based authentication system to make it easier for you to manage your old accounts without a lot of hassle.

Here’s how the portal is designed to help you:

• It lets you securely access accounts not currently linked to a Universal Account Number (UAN).

• You can update your profile details and complete the essential UAN linking and activation process.

• The system replaces much of the old manual paperwork, speeding up your claim processing significantly.

Navigating Your Old Member IDs

E-PRAAPTI is especially useful if you still have old Member Identification Numbers (MIDs) from before UANs were introduced in October 2014.

The portal aims to streamline several scenarios for you:

• If you log in with Aadhaar and fill out an online form with your EPF details, old PF accounts might automatically merge with your latest one.

• It can also facilitate withdrawals if your MID matches an existing UAN.

• If you possess an MID but no UAN, the portal is expected to generate a new UAN for you.

• For those without an MID, your online application will be sent to the relevant EPFO office for identity verification.

Simplifying Your Claim Process

This digital approach reduces your reliance on former employers for verification, which often created delays. It also minimizes paperwork and means fewer trips to EPFO offices.

The portal’s capabilities are expected to grow, eventually including members who might not remember or have access to their old Member IDs in later phases.

E-PRAAPTI offers a practical solution to recover your unclaimed PF savings, making a complex process simpler and more accessible for you.
