Aster DM Healthcare Stock Dips on Major Stake Sale
By ThePip Desk
Aster DM Healthcare shares fell 3.64% after Centella Mauritius Holdings sold a 6.7% stake for Rs 4,450 crore, impacting the stock price despite a strong market.
Aster DM Quality Care shares experienced a notable decline on August 20, dropping by 3.64% on the BSE. This downward movement occurred despite a generally strong Indian stock market, primarily driven by a substantial bulk deal involving Centella Mauritius Holdings Limited.
The healthcare services company’s stock closed at Rs 771.05 per share after the significant price adjustment. This immediate market reaction stemmed directly from Centella Mauritius Holdings’ decision to offload a large block of its equity holding.
Centella Mauritius Holdings, an investment vehicle backed by TPG, divested 5.81 crore equity shares in Aster DM Quality Care. This transaction, executed on August 19, represented a 6.7% stake in the company and was valued at approximately Rs 4,450 crore, with shares sold at a price of Rs 766 per share.
Further insight into Centella’s position emerged from Catalyst Trusteeship Limited, which acts as a security agent for Centella’s lenders. On August 19, Catalyst Trusteeship disclosed that an additional 7.98 crore Aster DM Quality Care shares had been pledged. These shares, encumbered after the merger of Aster DM Healthcare and Quality Care India, constitute about 9.2% of the merged company’s paid-up share capital.
Factoring in previous pledges, Centella’s total encumbered holding now stands at 8.44 crore shares. This significant volume represents approximately 9.7% of Aster DM Quality Care’s total equity, providing additional context to the recent share movement.
The company’s share price has faced sustained downward pressure over the past month, losing over 5.22%. Despite this recent downturn, Aster DM Quality Care has delivered an overall return exceeding 27% in 2026, indicating a positive longer-term performance trajectory for investors.
Currently, Aster DM Quality Care trades at a price-to-earnings multiple of 192.25 times. Its market capitalization is reported at Rs 67,519.7 crore, reflecting its significant presence in the healthcare sector.
