By Business DeskCommercial LPG Cylinder Prices Rise Again in India

Commercial LPG cylinder prices in India increased again on September 1, marking the sixth hike since February. Businesses face rising costs.

Commercial LPG cylinder prices have increased across India, effective September 1, marking the sixth such hike since the US-Iran conflict began in late February. Domestic LPG cylinder prices, however, have remained unchanged.

Key Price Adjustments

  • The 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders saw a price rise of Rs 9.50 to Rs 11.50, depending on location.
  • In New Delhi, a 19-kg commercial cylinder now costs Rs 2747.50, an increase of Rs 9.50.
  • Mumbai’s 19-kg commercial cylinder stands at Rs 2,691.50, also with a Rs 9.50 hike.
  • Prices for 5 kg non-domestic gas cylinders increased from Rs 762 to Rs 764.
  • Prices for 5 kg and 10 kg cooking gas cylinders, including the XTRALITE cylinder, were stable.

This latest adjustment follows a series of increases over recent months, impacting operating costs for various commercial establishments nationwide. These frequent revisions reflect the volatility in global energy markets.

Previous Price Movements

  • March 1: A hike of Rs 28.
  • March 7: An increase of Rs 114.50.
  • April 1: A significant rise of Rs 195.50.
  • May 1: A substantial jump of Rs 993.
  • June 1: An additional increase of Rs 42.

The cumulative effect of these hikes is expected to directly impact eateries, small businesses, and cloud kitchens. This could potentially lead to higher food prices for consumers as hotel and restaurant owners may pass on the increased fuel costs.

Pricing Dynamics

Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum revise LPG prices monthly, with rates determined by international crude oil prices and the value of the rupee. India imports approximately 60-65% of its total LPG requirements.

The consistent upward trend in commercial LPG prices underscores the ongoing pressure from global crude oil markets and currency fluctuations, directly influencing operational expenses for businesses reliant on gas.
