India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) processed a record 24.51 billion transactions in August 2026. This milestone represents a 3.6% increase from July’s figures, according to data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

Transaction Volumes Surge

The growth in transaction volume underscores the sustained adoption of digital payments across India, despite a slight moderation in overall transaction value.

Value Moderation Amidst Growth

While transaction volumes surged, the total value of UPI transactions experienced a marginal monthly decrease. The aggregate value stood at Rs 29.82 lakh crore in August, a 0.2% dip from Rs 29.88 lakh crore in July 2026.

However, the yearly trend remained positive, with transaction value growing 20% from Rs 24.85 lakh crore recorded in August 2025.

Daily Averages and Trends

Analysis of daily figures provides further insight into UPI’s operational scale.

  • Average daily transaction value was approximately Rs 96,194 crore in August.
  • This figure saw a slight moderation from Rs 96,383 crore in July.
  • Compared to August 2023, the daily value showed significant growth from Rs 80,161 crore.
