India’s UPI processed a record 23.66 billion transactions in July, marking significant growth and expanding its reach to 11 international markets.

India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) processed a record 23.66 billion transactions in July, cementing its role as an indispensable part of daily life. This instant payment platform, launched in 2016, continues to drive extensive digital payment adoption across the nation.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) data shows the total value of these transactions reached ₹29.88 lakh crore. This volume reflects a 4.1% increase from June and a 22% year-on-year growth compared to July 2025.

UPI’s Domestic Metrics

On a daily basis, UPI managed approximately 763 million transactions. The average daily transaction value stood at about ₹96,383 crore, highlighting the platform’s robust activity.

Expanding Global Footprint

UPI’s influence has extended beyond India’s borders, with the Finance Ministry confirming its introduction in 11 overseas markets. These international expansions include the UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka.

The platform is projected to account for nearly 49% of the global real-time payment transaction volume in 2025. This underscores its growing international significance in the digital payments ecosystem.

Future Trajectory

The Finance Ministry noted UPI exemplifies technology’s seamless integration into daily life, simplifying payments via QR codes and mobile devices. The government is committed to fostering UPI’s continued growth.

Future efforts will focus on expanding the user and merchant base through strategic policy measures and ongoing technological advancements. Initiatives aimed at enhancing financial inclusion across all societal segments are also planned.
