Over the past ten years, UPI’s transaction volume saw an approximately 13,000-fold surge, increasing from 1.78 crore transactions in FY2016-17 to over 24,162 crore in FY2025-26. This reflects a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 188%.

This growth is underpinned by extensive institutional adoption. The number of live banks on UPI expanded from 44 in FY2016-17 to 703 by FY2025-26, with UPI now accounting for 84% of India’s total digital payments.
