State Bank of India (SBI) introduces new charges for Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account cash withdrawals from October 1, 2026. Know the new limits and fees.

If you hold a Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account with State Bank of India (SBI), get ready for some changes to your cash withdrawal limits. Effective October 1, 2026, you will incur charges for withdrawals beyond a certain monthly threshold.

This means your fifth cash withdrawal and any subsequent ones in a month will no longer be free. It’s important to understand how these new rules will impact your banking habits, especially if you frequently access cash.

Understanding the New Withdrawal Limits

You are entitled to four free cash withdrawals each month from your BSBD account. Once you exceed this limit, each additional transaction will come with a specific fee.

Here’s what you need to know about the charges:

  • You get 4 free cash withdrawals per month.
  • The 5th withdrawal and onwards will cost ₹15 plus applicable GST.
  • This new rule takes effect on October 1, 2026.

What Counts Towards Your Limit?

Previously, certain transaction types were not counted, but that is changing. The revised policy now includes Aadhaar-enabled payment services (AePS) withdrawals within your monthly limit.

This limit also covers withdrawals you make from SBI ATMs, ATMs belonging to other banks, and even directly from SBI branches. However, digital transactions like electronic payments and fund transfers will remain free and unrestricted.

About Your BSBD Account

BSBD accounts are specifically designed to provide essential banking services without requiring you to maintain a minimum balance. As a BSBD account holder, you also receive a free RuPay ATM-cum-debit card and are exempt from annual maintenance charges.

Keep in mind that if you have a BSBD account, you are generally not permitted to hold another SBI savings account simultaneously. If you open a BSBD account, you are typically required to close any existing SBI savings account within 30 days. These new changes will primarily affect those who frequently withdraw cash, especially through AePS.
